Group Accountant 12 month maternity cover

Back to careers

The Team

We’re a small, central finance team who work across all of our brands and who have responsibility for all things finance - from invoicing and credit control to external and board reporting.

Although we’re a small team, we don’t just keep to ourselves; we work closely with other teams throughout the wider business. We use some great tools, like NetSuite for our AR and GL, Pleo for our staff expenses and Pento for our payroll to help us to work efficiently and keep on top of our game. We’re currently implementing Workday Adaptive Planning to take our management reporting and forecasting capabilities to the next level.

This role will report to the Assistant Group Financial Controller and you’ll interact very regularly with our Group Financial Controller and CFO.

The Job

We’re looking for a qualified or part qualified Group Accountant to join us on a 12 month maternity cover contract.

You’ll play a key role in our month end process. You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of our accruals and prepayments, fixed assets, payroll, staff expenses and intercompany transactions so that you can post and reconcile all of these areas, among other things.

You’ll learn loads about how our cash flows work so that you can forecast these on a regular basis and make sure we have all the right money in all the right places at all the right times. You’ll also make sure our UK bank account is kept reconciled because that’s about as important as it gets.

We’re looking for someone who will gain an in-depth understanding of the transactional side of our business as well. Some of our billing queries can get quite complex and on some days we need an extra pair of hands to make sure we’re responding to our customers and suppliers as quickly as we can. We’re a small team and we’re the kind of team where everybody helps each other out and you’ll play a key part in supporting our Accounts Assistants when this side of things needs some extra support.

You’ll be the kind of person who thrives on a challenge. When the next exciting or demanding project comes along and the Assistant Group FC or Group FC need some help with things you’ll be putting your hand in the air and stepping forward.

For you, no finance task is too big or too small, you’ll want to learn as much as you can about as much as you can and we’ll be here to support you every step of the way.

We want to keep making our business better and you’ll be adaptable to the constantly iterating nature of roles in a fast moving business.

You’ll also be involved with our half-year and full-year financial reporting, external audit and statutory accounts preparation. You’ll play a crucial role in keeping us up to date with our tax filing obligations in the various jurisdictions. You will see how the work you do forms part of the management accounts that we use to run our business. You will also work with the wider team to help implement and maintain our evolving technology stack, always looking for more automated, more scalable and more secure ways of doing things. You’ll help to identify and implement productivity and process improvements.

  • a newly qualified or part-qualified accountant

Desired Skills

  • You’ll have worked as part of a team, ideally with some of those team members located elsewhere
